Pakistan CV Format 2026: Complete Guide With Example

5 min read Updated By Free CV Maker

Applying for jobs in Pakistan — on Rozee.pk, Mustakbil, LinkedIn or through newspaper ads — works a little differently from applying in the UK or US. Local recruiters expect certain sections, a particular order and specific conventions around photos, CNIC numbers and references. This guide gives you the complete Pakistan CV format for 2026, with a full example you can copy.

The standard Pakistan CV format (section order)

Use this order for almost every job in Pakistan:

  1. Personal details — name, phone, email, address/city
  2. Career objective or professional summary
  3. Work experience — newest first, with achievements
  4. Education — newest first, with institution and grades
  5. Skills — technical and soft skills
  6. Certifications and training (if any)
  7. Languages
  8. References — "Available on request" is standard

Keep it to one page if you have under five years of experience, two pages maximum otherwise. Single column, standard fonts (Calibri, Arial), 10.5–12pt body text. If you're applying internationally too, compare with our best CV format guide.

Personal details: what to include (and what to skip)

Include: full name, mobile number with +92 country code, a professional email address, your city (full home address is optional — city is enough for online applications).

CNIC number: do not put your CNIC on a CV you upload to job portals — it's a privacy and identity-theft risk. Only share it when an employer specifically asks, later in the hiring process.

Photo: in Pakistan, a small professional photo is still common, especially for customer-facing roles, teaching and government-adjacent jobs. For tech, multinationals and remote roles it's optional. If you add one, use a plain-background headshot — never a selfie or cropped wedding photo. Our CV maker supports photo CV templates if you need one.

Skip: religion, marital status, blood group and father's name — none of these belong on a modern CV.

Career objective vs professional summary

Fresh graduates in Pakistan traditionally write an "objective". It works if it's specific — but a short summary is stronger for anyone with experience:

Weak objective: "To obtain a challenging position in a reputable organisation."

Strong summary: "Accounts officer with 4 years of experience in textile exports, managing payables of PKR 60M annually. Proficient in QuickBooks and advanced Excel. Seeking a senior accounts role in Karachi."

More templates in our CV summary examples.

Work experience (Pakistani employers read this first)

List jobs newest-first with: job title, company name, city, dates (month + year), then 3–4 bullet points of achievements — not duties. Pakistani recruiters respond well to concrete numbers: revenue handled, team size, customers served, targets exceeded.

Sales Officer — ABC Distributors, Lahore · Jan 2022 – Present
• Grew territory sales 28% year-on-year, from PKR 8.5M to PKR 10.9M
• Managed relationships with 45+ retail outlets across Lahore
• Trained 3 junior sales reps, two of whom exceeded quarterly targets

Start each bullet with an action verb like achieved, managed, launched or reduced.

Education: the Pakistani format

Write degrees newest-first with the full institution name and grades as Pakistanis recognise them:

BBA (Marketing) — Institute of Business Administration, Karachi · 2019 – 2023 · CGPA 3.4/4.0
Intermediate (Pre-Engineering) — BISE Lahore · 2019 · 82%
Matriculation (Science) — BISE Lahore · 2017 · 88%

Fresh graduates should put education before experience and add relevant coursework or final-year projects. See our CV for freshers guide.

Skills, languages and certifications

Split into technical skills (software, tools, accounting systems) and soft skills (communication, teamwork). For languages, most Pakistani CVs list Urdu, English and any regional language with a level: "English (fluent), Urdu (native), Punjabi (conversational)".

Add certifications that matter locally — ACCA papers, PMP, DigiSkills, NAVTTC courses, or HEC-recognised diplomas. Need ideas? Browse 100+ skills for your CV.

What Pakistani recruiters look for in 30 seconds

Ask any HR manager in Lahore or Karachi what they scan first: your current or most recent job title, the companies you've worked for, your degree and university, and your city. That's it — the rest gets read only if those four pass. Put your job title directly under your name, keep company names prominent, and never bury your degree on page two.

CV conventions for specific Pakistani job markets

Government and public sector: follow the advertisement precisely — many ask for CVs in a prescribed format or alongside their own form. Include your domicile district when the ad mentions quotas, and list degrees with exact titles as they appear on your transcripts.

Teaching: schools and colleges expect your subjects, board results and any B.Ed/M.Ed prominently. A photo is standard here.

IT and startups: GitHub, portfolio links and live project URLs matter more than a photo. Keep it to one page and lead with skills and projects.

Overseas / Gulf applications: switch to the Gulf CV format — expectations around photos, visa status and personal details are different there.

Common mistakes on Pakistani CVs

  • Putting the CNIC number on a CV uploaded to job portals.
  • Writing "Curriculum Vitae" as a giant heading — your name is the heading.
  • Listing every school exam from primary level upward.
  • Using an email like sweetie_92@… instead of firstname.lastname@…
  • Copying a neighbour's objective word-for-word — recruiters have seen it a hundred times.
  • Sending a .docx that reformats on the recruiter's phone — always prefer PDF.

Tips for Rozee.pk, LinkedIn and newspaper ads

  • Rozee.pk / Mustakbil: keep your online profile identical to your CV — recruiters cross-check. Upload the PDF version too.
  • LinkedIn: Pakistani multinationals and startups hire heavily here. Copy your CV summary into your headline.
  • Newspaper ads (Jang, Dawn, Express): follow the ad's instructions exactly — if it asks for applications by post or a specific subject line, do that.
  • Government jobs (FPSC, PPSC, SPSC): these use their own application forms; your CV supports but doesn't replace the form.
  • File format: always send a PDF named Bilal-Ahmed-CV.pdf unless the ad asks for Word.

Before you send, run the free ATS CV checker — many large Pakistani employers now filter applications with tracking software. Read our ATS-friendly resume tips to make sure yours passes.

One last habit worth building: revisit your CV every few months and add new projects, tools and results while they're fresh. A CV you maintain continuously is always ready when the right opportunity appears.

Frequently asked questions

Should I put my CNIC number on my CV in Pakistan?

No. Never put your CNIC on a CV you upload to job portals or email widely — it creates an identity-theft risk. Share it only when an employer specifically requests it during the hiring process.

Do I need a photo on my CV for jobs in Pakistan?

It depends on the role. Photos are still common in Pakistan for teaching, sales, hospitality and customer-facing jobs. For tech companies, multinationals and remote roles, a photo is optional. Use a professional headshot, never a selfie.

How long should a CV be in Pakistan?

One page for fresh graduates and anyone with under five years of experience; two pages maximum for experienced professionals. Recruiters in Pakistan, like everywhere, prefer concise CVs.

What is the best CV format for Rozee.pk?

Use the standard section order — personal details, summary, experience, education, skills, references — as a clean one or two-page PDF. Keep your Rozee.pk online profile text identical to your uploaded CV.

Should my CV be in English or Urdu?

English, in almost all cases. Even for local companies, professional CVs in Pakistan are written in English. Urdu is only used for specific roles like Urdu teaching or media jobs.

What should I write for references on a Pakistani CV?

'Available on request' is the standard convention. Don't list referees' names and phone numbers on the CV itself — provide them only when the employer asks.
